November 10, 2020: Dr. Keith Baker

The PEARL was honored to welcome Dr. Keith Baker on Tuesday, November 10th to present on “Achievement Goal Orientation: Aligning your goals to best adapt to challenges and engage in deep, lifelong learning.” In his 45-minute presentation, Dr. Baker helped the audience understand achievement goal orientation and the process of aligning one’s goals to best adapt to challenges and engage in deep, lifelong learning. Following his presentation, Dr. Baker spent 15 minutes in a Q&A session with the Zoom audience.

Dr. Baker is the Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital (DACCPM). This event was co-hosted by the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine and the Stanford Medicine Teaching and Mentoring Academy.

November 2019: Dr. Meredith Vanstone

The PEARL welcomed Dr. Meredith Vanstone, an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University, as a guest lecturer presenting on “Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods.” Dr. Vanstone is a qualitative researcher who examines ethically complex dimensions of primary care policy, practice, and education, and serves as a Scientist in McMaster’s Program for Education Research, Innovation & Theory (MERIT) and as a member of the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis (CHEPA).

August 30, 2019: Dr. Diane Wayne

The PEARL and the Stanford Faculty Club welcomed Dr. Diane Wayne to speak in the Stanford Faculty Club lecture series. Dr. Wayne is Professor of Medicine and Vice Dean at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her lecture, “Calculating the Return on Investment of Medical Education,” was presented on August 30, 2019 — the day before the Northwestern Wildcats played the Stanford Cardinals in the football home opener. Dr. Wayne’s lecture was very well received, and Stanford won the game 17-7.

May 22, 2019: Dr. Victoria Brazil

The PEARL welcomed Dr. Victoria Brazil, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of Medical Simulation, for a special guest workshop, “Performance Art for Educators”. Dr. Brazil is an internationally-recognized expert in medical education and clinical simulation, with an impressive speaking resume that includes Essentials of EM, SMACC, The Teaching Course, FemInEM FIX, Harvard Macy Institute, and many other major healthcare conferences. She was a 2002-03 Stanford International Visiting Scholar.
